TIRANA, March 7 – The Tirana International Airport, is once again participating at the International Travel Trade Show in Berlin (ITB) presenting its record achievement and huge potential for growth. Held from March 7 to 11, ITB is expected to attract more than 170,000 visitors along with exhibitors from 180 countries. ITB Berlin is the leading business-to-business (B2B) platform in the tourism industry.
This is the fifth year TIA will be promoting the Airport and Albania at this prestigious international event. Last year, TIA produced an excellent performance in the industry and recorded further impressive growth at one of the best infrastructure facilities in the country. The Airport served more than 1.8 million passengers, recorded around 23,000 air traffic movements and handled 2,500 tons of cargo, registering considerable increases compared to 2010.
“Being the world’s largest tourism convention ITB provides great opportunities to benefit from the global tourism industry. All levels of tourism market will be participating- tour operators, booking engines, destinations, airlines and hotels and car rental companies – which is why our airport cannot miss this unique opportunity,” said Andrea Gebbeken, TIA’s Chief Executive Officer.
TIA will be present at ITB 2012 at Booth No. 113, located in Hall 3.3 where the Airport’s achievements, potential and other detailed information will be presented and made available for all interested participants at the fair.
Since April 2005, the airport has been managed by TIA, a consortium led by Germany’s HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH (HTA), one of the leading private airport investors in the world, which has won a 20-year concession to be in charge of the airport’s activities.
The company managing the Airport is planning a new extension. Planning for Phase C, another large project at the Airport, will start in 2012 and, in the following year, TIA will begin the construction of an upgraded and extended terminal, airport managers say. The new project that will cost more than seven million Euros will be focused on the Arrivals Area and the Departure Gates, aiming to meet the passengers’ satisfactions and comfort.
