TIRANA, Dec. 7 – The Public Information Office in the Tirana Court of Appeals was officially opened Monday with a public ceremony at the Court with the participation of US Ambassador John L. Withers II, OSCE Deputy Head of Presence Renate Herrmans, Justice Minister Bujar Nishani and Deputy Chair of High Council of Justice Kreshnik Spahiu.
Withers said that, “Interventions like this are those which make a real change in both the public’s actual experience, but also perception of the judiciary. Interventions like this improve the delivery of justice in ways that citizens can see and feel.”
Herrmans commented that the transparency of court procedures is a key goal of this project. “The realization of the objectives of this small project is a good base for fighting corruption in courts and for promoting the rule of law.”
The remodeling of the PR office space was made by the OSCE, USAID and the Tirana Court of Appeals.
It will give litigants, lawyers and citizens one office at which information and assistance will be available, removing the need to go to several offices in the Courthouse. It will also improve access to information for citizens, increase transparency of court procedures, and increase trust in the Court and the Albanian judicial system.
