Tirana on track for visa liberalization

TIRANA, March 29 – European Parliament rapporteur of the Foreign Commission, Nicholaos Chountis, made a visit to Tirana to meet with top domestic law enforcement officials.
Chountis told Albanian authorities that there were no obstacles in the country’s efforts for getting the visa-free regime from the European Union Schengen countries, the Interior Ministry reported.
The rapporteur met with Interior Minister Lulzim Basha and also top policeman Hysni Burgaj to talk about the steps the authorities have undertaken along the road map set by the bloc.
He was interested in border management, issuing documentation, fighting organized crime and also cooperation with law-enforcement authorities with those of the neighboring countries and the bloc.
Albania expects to get the visa-free regime this summer. Albanians are expecting to use them to travel to EU member countries.
