TIRANA, April 26 – Albania’s top policeman Hysni Burgaj has held a series of meetings with western ambassadors in the country interested in the work and preparations of police for the upcoming May 8 local elections.
Burgaj met with US Ambassador Alexander Arvizu last weekend. The United States are a close ally and have committed funding and direct assistance for police reform in the country.
Burgaj also met with British Ambassador Fiona Mcllwham.
All ambassadors insisted that the May 8 elections are key to the country’s further progress in its democratic road and also the integration processes.
Police have had training and are also issued with a booklet on how they should behave during the election days.
Many of the international donors – the United States, the European Union, the OSCE and others – have actually been conducting some training with the Albanian state police.
