TIRANA, June 21 – President Bamir Topi joined his Montenegrin counterpart Filip Vujanovic to take part at an international conference on Shkodra Lake, its current situation and prospects, held at the Montenegrin capital Podgorica.
Academics from both countries and other senior officials discussed the situation of the lake shared by both Albania and Montenegro and what efforts are needed to promote its prospects in the future.
They stressed that tourism is the mechanism to promote the area and the culture and history of both countries and peoples.
The two governments also signed a memorandum of understanding. Topi said that the Shkodra Lake deserves to be studied on its rich ecosystem, archaeology, ethnography, tourism, and traditions, which in themselves remain an area not yet discovered by the scientists of our countries, but not just from them.
The Shkodra Lake “is not just a physical meeting point of the areas that define it. It is also a unification of cultures and history of two peoples that now more than ever have united their aspiration for integration by showing an excellent example of good friendship between countries,” he said
Topi said that both countries should not just draft projects and plans in common and provide different financial sponsorships given by EU countries, but also to make them effective as soon as possible in the benefit of the communities that use them.
