TIRANA, Sep. 28 – President Bamir Topi left Albania Tuesday for a visit to China as the head of an official delegation.
Albanian businessmen and investors are also part of the delegation that is to visit the Expo Shanghai 2010 fair held there.
Topi will also use the visit to meet with some top Chinese officials.
China was once Albania’s main supporter after Tirana broke ties with then-Soviet Union in 1961. But that only lasted until 1978 when the communist regime also broke ties with Beijing.
With the fall of communism, the ties between the two countries have slowly returned to normalcy, and there is an increasing presence of Chinese businesses in the country. Many Albanian businesses also import goods from China.
