TIRANA, July 5 – President Bamir Topi has met with many western ambassadors recently and has given messages of cooperation to the political factors in the country.
Topi met with EU Ambassador Ettore Sequi and Polish Ambassador Irena Tatarzinska (whose country recently took the EU presidency) and also the OSCE Ambassador Eugen Wollfarth.
Topi said that Albania’s integration into the European Union is the biggest aspiration of the people and is also considered a primary objective of Albanian foreign policy.
Tatarzinska gave Topi the priorities of the Polish presidency for the next half of the year, underscoring that EU enlargement remains one of them. She also reassured Topi of Warsaw’s support to Albania and other Western Balkan countries for their membership in the bloc.
Sequi has made it clear during the last days that European integration should become the national objective in the country, urging faster steps to fulfill the 12 recommendations Brussels made to Tirana in its last progress report.
The last local elections and electoral reform were a main issue in the meeting with Wollfarth.
The international actors are urging Albanian politicians to bring an end to the May 8 municipal polls dispute and resume efforts toward electoral reform.
