TIRANA, Oct 20 – Transparency International Albania said that the new electoral code should definitely define, clearly, how the political parties would secure their financial assistance, especially during the electoral campaigns.
The organization said that the political parties were normally funded by businesses that remained anonymous so they might later profit from public tenders and other government programs.
Transparency International Albania said that none of the political parties has previously made transparent its funding sources.
The organization said that was also based on a lack of proper legal background and lack of abilities to check and monitor funding resources.
They said private companies are not interested in revealing their names in order to profit after political parties they financed come to power.
“They become not only partners in the abuse with power, but also to become influential in important political, economic and institutional decision-making,” said the TIA.
