TIRANA, April 8 – The Supreme Court postponed a trial session to decide whether it should continue to judge Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha for the charge of abuse of post on the Rreshen-Kalimash road segment contract. Basha’s attorney was not present at the session.
The court was considering the request from Basha, who is accused for the period of time that he served as transport minister, to stop the investigation against him after prosecutors had broken the laws. This demand was support by the Tirana district court and the Appeals Court.
If the Supreme Court agrees it is doubtful that Supreme Court, would again continue the other trial against Basha for the charge of abuse of post.
Basha is accused of unfairly choosing a company for the road segment, without holding the normal tender procedures and without having a plan for the road segment. It says that this has caused the government’s budget more than 200 million Euros of damage.
The 63-kilometer road segment would have cost 418 million Euros when it started three years ago. Now it will cost 719 million Euros.
