Turkey starts restoration of Islamic heritage works in Albania

TIRANA, April 29 – Turkish officials completed the first stage of a restoration project aimed at Ottoman-era monuments in Albania.
The first stage, according to worldbulletin.net, included a technical review and the identification of sites that will be restored in 2009, as part of the project of the Turkish Cooperation and Development Administration (TIKA) to protect Turkish heritage sites in Albania.
The delegation of four experts from TIKA and Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism reviewed a total of 16 mosques, mansions and Turkish baths in 10 Albanian cities, including Tirana, Durr쳬 Shkodra, Elbasan, Gjirokastra, Peqin, Kor衬 Vlora, Berat and Kruja.
The Turkish experts were accompanied by representatives of the Albanian Muslim League and local authorities from the Institute of Historical Works, who expressed Albania’s gratitude for the restoration project.
