TIRANA, Sept. 12 – Some 750 foreign tourists visited Albania in the past few days in two cruise ships anchoring in Durres port, the country’s biggest. Sources from Durres Port Authority say several cruise ships bringing some 4,500 tourists from all over the world visited Durres port during this tourist season. Officials say German company “Studius” and Nordic “Tui Skandinav” have placed Durres as one of the top Mediterranean destinations on their tourist guides. Most cruise ship tourists come from the U.K, France, Belgium, Germany but also the U.S. Turkey, Russia etc. The cruise ship tours in Durres include visits to the local archeological sites such as the ancient Roman amphitheatre and the local archeological museum, but also the neighbouring town of Kruja. Port officials say some 700,000 Albanian and foreign tourists visited Durres last year.
