U.S investments sought as top official visits Albania

TIRANA, June 8 – Albanian officials have urged Washington to help in bring more U.S. businesses and direct investment to Albania, as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Yee made a visit to Tirana this week.

Yee met with senior leaders, discussing strategic relations between the two countries and expressing the commitment to the bilateral cooperation, especially along the NATO lines and also the global fight against terrorism.

Albania’s European Union aspirations were also part of the talks, including the strengthening of the democratic institutions and the law-enforcement ones, according to official statements.

Tirana expressed its will and support for the regional stability, peace and prosperity.

Yee reconfirmed Washington’s support to Albania’s EU aspirations and urged the western Balkan country work more on the necessary reforms in that road, especially the strengthening of the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

He also highly evaluated Tirana’s moderate role in the region considering it as a stability force there.

Albania’s upcoming local or municipal June 21 elections were also part of the talks.
