TIRANA, Oct 6 – US President Barack Obama sent a congratulatory letter to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha for his victory in the parliamentarian election, the new government emphasizing strong relations between the two countries.
“I am looking forward to continue to work together with you to promote freedom and prosperity around the world,” wrote Obama.
“For me has been a great honor that together with other leaders of NATO countries to welcome Albania and Croatia as new members on the Alliance’s summit in Strasbourg-Kehl, earlier this year.
“The United States appreciates the contribution of Albania in spreading of peace and stability in the world. I am committed to continue cooperation with you and support your country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
“The United States of America highly values the close and friendly relations with Albania. I am confident that continuing our cooperation will further consolidate ties between our two countries,” said Obama.
While US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta.
“This has been a significant year for our partnership. The United States was honored to join its NATO allies in welcoming Albania to the Alliance this year, a reflection of Albania’s positive contributions to regional and global peace and stability. We pledge our continued support for Albania’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
“I wish you every success in your new position and look forward to working closely with you in support of our countries’ shared goals of stable, peaceful southeast Europe, and furthering democratic values and security in Albania and throughout the world. It is my belief that our countries’ close partnership will only deepen as we pursue these objectives,” she wrote.
