TIRANA, April 10 – The World Bank has lent Albania 65.9 million euros to support its road maintenance and a safety project.

The deal was signed by Albanian Finance Minister Shkelqim Cani and bank’s country manager Tahseen Sayed.

Cani expressed appreciation for the WB support for infrastructure development projects in Albania.

Albanian Transport Minister Edmond Haxhinasto said the agreement will support a very important project aimed at maintaining and providing efficient management of the country’s main roads.

“Around 1400 km of roads system will be maintained up to a new standard,” he added.

Sayed said that it was crucial for Albania to work toward reducing the number of deaths due to road accidents.

The death rate in car accidents in Albania is twice higher than in countries in the region, according to statistics.
