TIRANA, March 13 – A cycle of 11 movies will be screened each Tuesday at the Marubi Academy of Film and Multimedia in Tirana to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification. The cinema event organized by the Italian Institute of Culture kicked off on Tuesday, April 12, with the screening of “Generazione 1000 Euro” movie directed by Massimo Venier.
The event called “Italy seen through the big screen” retraces the history of the past decade in Italy through shadows and an ironic but efficient and biting language.
The programme of films will continue each Tuesday until June 21, organizers said.
Celebrations in Albania to mark Italy’s 150th anniversary of unification on March 17, 2011 kicked off since last November with a conference dedicated to Italy’s unification hero, military leader Giuseppe Garibaldi with a performance by soprano Alisa Zinovjeva and pianist Massimo Lambertini at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
The biggest event held last November was the Otello opera, a lyric tragic drama in four acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi.
Last year, dozens of activities were held in Albania for more than three months in the frame of “Italy, Albania, Two Peoples, One Sea, One Friendship” season of cultural events. The more than 80 events held from March to June 2010 included 25 concerts, 5 film festivals, 10 fairs, 28 conferences, 5 sports events, 7 initiatives on the economic and commercial sector, 6 training activities and 5 contests.
The events were aimed at promoting Italian culture in Albania considering the successful cooperation during the past 20 years which have made Italy, where more than 400,000 Albanian immigrants, the country’s top trade partner.
