13 arrested in scheme to defraud public drug insurance fund

TIRANA, Nov. 3 – Authorities have arrested 13 people in Tirana, including public officials and private company representatives, on charges of being involved in a corruption scheme with drug reimbursements.

Two of those arrested have already admitted to their role in the illegal profiting from public money and are collaborating with the authorities, prosecutors said.

Some of the arrested work in private pharmacies and a big medical drug companies and were involved in a scheme of illegally securing public money through defrauding the state’s medical insurance fund, which assists the elderly and the poor in paying for expensive medical drugs.
