TIRANA, April 14 – Yet another victim of the Gerdec explosion has died as the death toll from the munitions factory disaster has now risen to 26. The latest victim, Resmije Kraja, 19, had been treated at a hospital in Brindisi, Italy since the March 15 blast.
Kraja had worked at the factory in Gerdec dismantling armaments at the time of the blast.
The March 15 blast killed 26 persons, injured more than 300 and destroyed about 400 houses, while seriously damaging thousands of other homes. Three persons have since been arrested and charged with negligence and the then-defense minister has resigned over the catastrophe.(Tirana Times Staff)
