TIRANA, July 25 – President Bamir Topi held a cordial meeting with two of his predecessors –Alfred Moisiu and Rexhep Meidani– to discuss the country’s situation and concerns. The grave political situation is not only damaging the country’s democracy and its institutions but it is also delaying the overall reforms needed for the integration into the European Union, it is postponing the fulfillment of the 12 key recommendations needed to get the candidate status from the bloc, they said. Topi promoted the predecessors’ concern expressed time and again in interviews or articles publishes in the country’s media as “powerful voices that overcome the militant calls of the political parties.” Both former presidents called to lower the political tension in the country and getting its institutions back into normalcy, especially the parliament. They urged reforms in justice, electoral code and other important laws. The opposition Socialists of Edi Rama has boycotted the parliament complaining of the May 8 municipal elections manipulation from the government of Democratic party Prime Minister Sali Berisha. The three presidents pledged they would join each other and continue efforts for the country’s stabilization.
