TIRANA, Dec. 21 – One of the last acts of parliament for the year was approving an amnesty for some 720 prisoners who met certain conditions. They will get one to one-and-a-half year cut in their sentences.
The lawmakers voted unanimously with 110 present parliamentarians the proposal.
The shortening of the sentence benefits primarily old prisoners, those with less then two remaining years in their sentence, women and those who were under 18 when starting the sentence.
However, the bill excluded any of those with grave felony convictions from benefiting.
