TIRANA, June 11 – Nearly 9,000 new businesses were registered during the first five months of this year, 28.4 percent more than the same period last year, the National Registration Centre (NCR) has announced.
The director general of NRC, Tom Kola, said the increase in the registration of new businesses is a sign that the Albanian economy is growing.
“At a time when the world economy is a in a recession because of the global crisis, Albania, a small country with a small market, has registered an increase of 30 percent in the number of businesses registered for the first time.
Meanwhile, the number of business de-registrations fell by 6.33 percent compared to the first five months of 2009.
NCR officials said the number of businesses who have gone bankrupt since the opening of the one-stop shop in September 2007 centre remained zero.
Nearly all application for changes approved by the NCR are application for transfer and extension of shares.
The National Registration Centre was established for the registration and incorporation of companies and their simultaneous registration with tax, labour authority and social and health contribution schemes. The centre is a ‘one-stop shop’ for the registration and incorporation of commercial companies and enterprises, which can be completed in one business day. Company data is organized and stored in databases and is accessible online.
