TIRANA, Jan. 22 – The 101 member Assembly of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry elected a new executive Head. Gjok Uldedaj, who was 62 votes ahead in the election, will substitute Luan Bregasi, the former head. Uldedaj promised that he will focus his efforts in expanding membership which he considers quite low at the present level. February will be an election month for the chambers in the other main Albanian cities. The news comes form Economy Vice Minister, Eno Bozdo. The parliament amended the law on trade chambers and every new initiative is being considered under the new legal framework, according to Bozdo. The new legal package has been often contested by some business representatives that claim the law is asserting more control over their activities, including a tighter observation practice over the chambers of commerce. These capacities include the direct or indirect influence of this authority on calling meetings of the assembly, choosing the members of the Auditing panel, etc. (Tirana Times Staff)
