TIRANA, March 4 – President Bamir Topi urged the nation’s political parties, on Tuesday, to continue discussing electoral reforms but also to act soon to make reform a reality.
Topi said that any dialogue should result in a product and an end which he said should be soon enough. The reason for Topi’s appeal was due to Albania’s announced hopes for an invitation to join NATO next month. Topi is also urging electoral reforms be in place so the country is ready for general elections next year.
Topi urged that discussions about electoral reform should also include the political parties which are not now represented in the parliament. Smaller political parties have been involved in a verbal battle with the two main parties, the governing Democratic party and main opposition Socialist Party, accusing them of plotting to eliminate them from parliament.
