Berisha acknowledges defeat at Gerdec blast

TIRANA, June 4 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha on Wednesday openly admitted that government institutions had failed in the case of the Gerdec March 15 blast which killed 26 persons and injured 302 others. Speaking at a meeting of the Committee of Security Policy Berisha harshly attacked all intelligence and other institutions for not preventing such a calamity. The premier called Gerdec blast a failure, a ‘terrible dramatic tragedy” accusing openly the intelligence officials for not preventing such things.
Berisha also said that while the country expects to become a full NATO member security issues become top priority of his executive.
The premier also said that a new institution would be created to coordinate intelligence activities of different law-enforcement departments. (Tirana Times Staff)
