TIRANA, Sep 9 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha appealed to the opposition to join efforts in passing major reforms in a new electoral code and justice legislation.
Speaking to his party’s lawmakers Monday, Berisha said that opposition Socialists had to collaborate with them on major reforms.
The same call was made a day later at a news conference with a senior official of the European Union.
Berisha said collaboration between the two largest parties was obligatory for such major reforms as elections, as well as the fight against corruption and organized crime.
The opposition, however, has warned that they cannot offer their collaboration, as they did in April, for the constitutional amendments on the voting system unless Berisha stopped efforts trying to bring many government departments and agencies under his control.
