Oct 15. A group of experts from the “Soregah”, a French company, started work on a project to study the feasibility of Albanian rivers for hydroenergy potential. The project is financed by World Bank with a 550 thousands US dollars credit. According to KESH, Albanian Electroenergetic Corporation, this project is the first step in the identification of the best sites for future constructions of hydropower plants. This is considered an important project for the country which uses only 35% of its potential hydroenergetic reserves.
The French study will concentrate on the Vjosa, Drin, and Seman rivers, including Osum and Devoll Rivers that supply the Seman River.
“The goal of this study is the complete analysis of hydrologic, meteorological, geologic, and seismic conditions and the evaluation of the possible environmental impact, social development of the areas in order to identify the generating capacities by building the most optimal schemes for the construction of hydropower plants and their use in Vjosa River and other rivers,” said Gjergj Bojaxhi, Chief Executive of KESH, who inspected the Vjosa area together with French and Albanian experts.
