TIRANA, Jan 7 – Authorities will very likely report this month the fourth mobile operator in the country.
The tender of selecting the fourth operator ends this month and the bids are expected to be open Jan. 23.
All interested companies have entered their bids in an online process, according to Ilir Shehu, head of the Electronic and Post Communication Authority in charge of the process.
He said there has been interest from European and American companies, though he declined to mention their names, only adding there was also an Albanian one.
Shehu said they would prefer a company that offered the lowest costs for the clients, adding that mobile cost calls will have a further reduction in March that may go up to 40 percent compared to a year ago.
In June there will also be possible the Number Portability service which will make possible for a client to change the operator without changing the card.
There are now three mobile operators in the country _ AMC, Vodafone and Eagle Mobile _ with more than 2.5 million clients.
