TIRANA, Saturday 14؆inancial Supervising Authority of Albania (AMF) announced in its annual report for 2008 that the Albanian stock market remains undeveloped with stock transactions limited to the informal market.
The capital market is represented by the Tirana Stock Exchange, but its trading is limited to governmental debt instruments such as T-Bills and government obligations. Millions of companies’ stocks are traded in the informal market and the Tirana Stock Exchange has been unable to channel these transaction through legal means, despite being the only authorized financial institution for capital trade.
According to the report, the lack of a regulated capital market, where companies can refinance by trading their capital, is due to political unwillingness from the government and lack of information characterizing businesses in Albania.
