PPI in Q4 2008 falls by 0.6 percent

TIRANA, April 7 – The Producer Price Index in the fourth quarter of 2008 fell by 0.6 percent compared to the previous quarter, but it was 4.3 percent compared to a year ago, according to the Institute of Statistics.
The Index in the “Mining and quarrying” sector fell by 0.2 percent, following the fall of the prices of products in the “Mining and quarrying of energy producing materials” by 0.1 percent and the “Mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials” activity by 0.5 percent.
Producer price index in “Manufacturing” sector fell by 0.8 percent. There was noted a decrease of the “Manufacture of food and beverages” activity with 1.6 percent, of the “Manufacture of textile and textile products” activity with 2.6 percent, of the “Manufacture of pulp and paper product” activity with 1.9 percent and of the “Metal fabrication” activity with 2.2 percent.
The index price of the “Tanning and dressing of leather, manufacture of luggage, handbags” activity, the “Manufacture of wood and wood products” activity and the “Manufacture of furniture” increased respectively by 1.9 percent, 1.2 percent and 0.5 percent.
Producer Price Index for domestic production fell by 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter. That came as a result of the fall of the mining and quarrying products by 0.2 percent, textile products by 11.4 percent.
The export index price fell by 0.8 percent compared to the previous quarter due to the lower price of food products by 6.2 percent, wood products by 1.2 percent and textile products by 2.3 percent
