Government approves wind energy plant in Karaburun peninsula

Tirana, May 14؁lbanian government approved yesterday the construction of an air energy plant in the Karaburun Peninsula in the Vlora Bay. “Enpower Albania” sh.p.k., a representative of “Moncada Energy Group” of Italy, will implant the project. Production is expected to start as soon as 2010 and it is supposed to be followed by other foreign and domestic investments in the sector. According to Energy Regulatory Agency (ERE), licences have been issued to different subjects in order to construct wind energy plants for a total capacity of 270 ME. In addition, the government approved an area of 95.746 hectares in the bay of Vlora to be used for such purposes. Projects in other regions of Vlora are in the process of evaluation.
The Karaburun project will have 250 air-generators and a similar investment is planned in Lezhe for a total value of 1 billion EUR.
