TIRANA, June 17נThe Albanian economy is still dealing with a monopolistic market. Companies have the tendency to reach personal hidden agreements in order to raise profits at the expense of the consumers. It is one of the main reasons why consumers are many times faced with higher prices at various periods during the year despite the fact that economic indicators – domestic and/or international – may point to a different direction.
The current market distortion was explained by Lindita Milo, Head of the Competitiveness Authority of Albania (CAA), during a seminar organized by CAA and OECD.
The goal of the seminar was to deal with such distortions, study the procedures and view the methodology used by CAA to identify and investigate monopolistic deals.
CAA is an independent institution consisting of the Commission and the Secretariat, and is directly elected by the Albanian Parliament.
