Bank deposits recover and loan portfolio increases 26.6% on the year

TIRANA, July 7ؔhe deposit portfolio of commercial banks operating in Albania stood at some 614.25 billion Lek (4.74 billion euro) at the end of May, 0.2% higher than a year earlier, the Bank of Albania (BoA) showed on Tuesday.
The banks’ end-of-May deposit portfolio was 1.1% higher than a month earlier.

The loan portfolio of commercial banks in Albania amounted to some 423.3 billion Lek (3.27 billion euro) at the end of May, 26.6% up from a year earlier, BoA statistics indicated.
On a monthly basis the banks’ May credit portfolio was 1.3% higher.
At the end of 2008 the banks’ credit portfolio totaled 396.3 billion Lek, a 35% increase on the year.

Loan to deposit ratio increased to 68.9%, a 14.4% increase on the year. Albania’s 16 commercial banks serve a market of some 3.2 million people.
The country’s M3 broad money supply totaled 816.4 billion Lek (6.3 billion euro) at the end of May, up by 7.7% on the year, according to BoA.
On a monthly basis M3 money supply was 0.7% higher at the end of May.
