TIRANA, July 8؊une consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.6%, after decreasing by a monthly 0.8% in May, the National Statistics Office, INSTAT, said on Wednesday.
The monthly CPI decrease in June was mostly due to a 6.1% fall in vegetable prices, and a 1.8% decrease in bread and wheat products prices, INSTAT data showed.
On an annual basis, the country’s consumer price inflation accelerated to 2.3% in June from 2.1% in May.
The annual rise in consumer prices was mainly due to a 28% increase in the prices of vegetables and a 8.8% rise in fish prices. Prices of books went up by 32%, while prices of transport services rose by 3.6%.
The country’s CPI reached 102.5 points in June compared to its base of 100 points in December 2007. In May the index measured 103.1 points.
In June 2008 consumer prices fell by 0.8% on the month and were 4.0% higher on the year.
