TIRANA, Sep 28 – Last week Prime Minister Sali Berisha rang the NASDAQ Stock Market Closing Bell in New York while he was there taking part at the annual session of the United Nations.
It was a very symbolic gesture, especially referring to the premier of a small and still one of Europe’s poorest countries. NASDAQ Stock Market Closing Bell is the most powerful digital stock market in the world that registers 3200 companies of the most advanced technologies.
Berisha also expressed his desire that Albania also has one day its own stock exchange. There have been previous efforts to open that but all have failed.
“I believe much in the genius of the free initiative of the Albanian business and it will not be distant the day when the Albanian companies get listed with the other world companies in the strongest and most transparent and the most digital stock market of the world,” he said in an interview to the public television station.
Berisha also reassured that Albanians would have the visa-free regime with the European Union member countries within the first year of this mandate.
He said that was a schedule, an agenda developing in line with the common arrangements between Albania and the European Commission.
“We are progressing with the biometric passports. It cannot be denied that we were a little behind the neighbor countries in regard to the documents which are quite important and that the European Commission has the trend of appreciating such a fact and not ignoring it. Thus, I am optimistic that there are no more political problems, but there are the technicalities that are required to be solved and Albania, within the first year of the mandate of this government, will get the decision of visa liberalization.”
