TIRANA, Oct 6anks achieved their best performance in terms of deposits in August since the start of the global financial crisis, domestic newspaper Monitor reported.
“The good news is that the trust of the Albanian consumer toward banks has grown as seen by the increasing levels of deposits,” Bank of Albania Governor Ardian Fullani was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
Central bank data showed that deposits increased by about 25 billion Lek (185.9 million euro) during August, or by 4%, recording the greatest growth on a monthly basis in 2009.
Deposits in foreign currency also recorded the highest growth during August, by about 23 billion Lek (171 million euro), accounting for 90% of total deposit growth.
