TIRANA, Nov. 19 – With contracts to run or rebuild the public water and sewage is several of Albania’s cities and towns, German companies have found a niche in Albania’s public works sector.
In cities like Korca, Kruja, Kucova, Pogradec and other places, the Germans are involved in implementing projects to rehabilitate water and sewerage systems and the introduction of water purification and sewage plants.
The projects are in various stages of their implementation and are financially supported by the German government. It has spent about 140 million euros so far.
Being considered as one of Germany’s priorities for Albania, the water supply and sanitation sectors have attractive many German companies.
They organized a fair recently to share opportunities and experience of working in Albania.
Bernd Ostendorf is a representative of one of the companies, VAG-Armaturen. The 130-year-old company entered the Albanian market three years ago, offering a wide range of products and equipment for water supply systems.
Mr. Ostendorf told the German public broadcaster, DW, that they are operating in Albania through an Albanian partner, and he is convinced it will be successful.
“The Albanian market is geared toward the introduction in use of quality and resistant goods, as these are one of the specific requirements of water sewerage systems,” he told DW. “I am more than sure that in 5 years VAG will be a leading company in the Albanian market.”
Another company at the fairs was ILF Group, an international consulting company that works on the implementation of infrastructure projects almost everywhere in the world.
Headquarters in Munich and Innsbruck, Austria, ILF Group is known in Albania for working on a project with the German Bank for Reconstruction to supply drinking water to the city of Korca. The German government put 25 million euros in the project, and made Korca one of the first cities in Albania with 24 hours uninterrupted supply of potable water.
