KESH director dismissed

TIRANA, June 4 – Muharrem Stojku, the director of the Albanian Power Corporation, KESH, has been unexpectedly dismissed and replaced by Engjell Zeqaj, a former director of the electricity distribution sector.
The decision was taken after a meeting of KESH’s board of directors.
“I have been fired as KESH director and this comes at a time when the leading positions of the coalition are being reviewed. The post duly belongs to the (ally) Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI). I was communicated the decision of the board one hour after it was made and gave my consent,” Stojku told local media.
Stojku’s dismissal comes at a time when KESH was having its best performance in years with electricity exports booming. The state-owned power corporation collected some 60 million euros from electricity exports in the first five months of this year and has signed contracts to sell another 14.8 million euros this month.
Stojku had held the post for eight months. His performance was described as successful although the northern region of Shkodra was flooded three times at the beginning of this year because of heavy rains and water discharges from the dams of the Drin cascade.
