TIRANA, July 23 – Albania has signed a 35-year concessionary contract with Germany’s ATX International to build an industrial park in Shengjin port area, northern Albania. The contract, worth 17 million euros, is expected to employ 3,000 people, said Economy Minister Dritan Prifti at the signing ceremony with the company’s representatives last weekend.
The deal with the German company follows a 2008 government decision giving the industrial area of Shengjin the park status and a long process of competition and negotiations, Prifti told reporters. He assured German representatives that the Albanian government would continue supporting their investment initiatives.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the company said the implementation of concessionary contract would promote employment, long-term development and attract investors from the region.
“This project is important not only for the development of northern Albania, but also in fostering development cooperation among regional countries of Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia,” said Dieter Reinhard, the spokesman for ATX International Tirana.
The industrial park, which will be built on a 3.2 hectare area will have manufacturing, industrial, agro-processing, trade and import-export activities.
