TIRANA, July 29 – An Albanian man sentenced for trafficking and prostitution has been extradited from Madrid, Spain, police said.
Ilia Kotiu, alias Artan Dautaj, born in Skrapar, had been sentenced to nine years by the Berat District Court for forcing his fiancꥠto work as a prostitute in Spain and France.
Police said Kotiu had been wanted since July 2001 when together with his fiancꥠhe went to Italy by speedboat. Police said the 29-year-old had exerted psychological and physical violence on his fiancꥠwhom he used as prostitute from July 2001.
Kotiu was arrested in December 2000 in Spain after cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Madrid.
He was handed over to Albania authorities of the Prisons Directorate General on July 29 at the Mother Teresa airport.
