TIRANA, September 6 – The Albanian civil aviation has suspended the operations of new ItAli Airlines after the company unexpectedly cancelled flights to Italy leaving hundreds of passengers in chaos at the Tirana International Airport.
The decision was announced last Sunday by Ervin Mazniku, the director of the Albanian Civil Aviation Authority, who said the company had not made any official or informal communication on any technical problem which could have prevented it from implementing international passenger protection rules.
“It is an unprecedented situation which has never happened in the history of Albanian Civil Aviation, that a company abandons its passengers in this way as the Italian company ItAli Airlines did,” said Mazniku.
The Authority said the license of the company which started operations in May 2010 will remain suspended until the situation with the company and the Italian civil aviation is clarified.
Currently, 14 airlines fly in to and out of TIA, including here the new airline ItAli Airlines, – all of which connect directly the Albanian capital city with 34 destinations.
