TIRANA, September 7 – The national Territory Adjustment Council (TACRA) approved in its latest meeting several important infrastructural and tourism projects including a giant tourist resort.
The council headed by Prime Minister Sali Berisha approved the construction permit of cruise ship terminal in the southern Saranda port which will also allow big ships to anchor in the port. The project also foresees the establishment of a centre for visitors to the Butrint archeological park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and other local tourist attractions.
TACRA also approved a permit for the relocation of the Durres fishing port, a 15 million dollar investment with a capacity to handle 150 fishing boats.
Meanwhile, an urban planning study for the construction of a tourist resort in the Hamallaj village, in the area known as Gjiri i Lalzit, was also approved. The project which lies on a 1 million m2 area, foresees the construction of three-storey buildings, and many recreational facilities.
Prime Minister Berisha described the project as the best model to develop Albanian coastline.
“We must once and for all give up constructions more than three storey high. We have around 92 to 94 percent of coastline to develop and we should target 2-3 storey buildings,” said Berisha.
TACRA also approved the construction a centre for the promotion of mountain tourism in the northern Valbona river area.
