TIRANA, Dec. 21 – Kreshnik Spahiu, deputy head of the High Council of Justice, urged the authorities Tuesday to lift the immunity of the judges in an effort to fight corruption and increase transparency of the judiciary.
Spahiu said that the judges’ immunity should not be considered a taboo when they are supposed to be investigated on corruption.
Fighting corruption and increasing the level of the judiciary in the country remains a top priority along the country’s integration efforts.
All international institutions and their reports insist that the judiciary is one of the weakest institutions in post-communist Albania.
