Efforts to fight human trafficking

TIRANA, July 2 – The Interior Ministry held the annual meeting of the committee on the fight against human trafficking to introduce its strategy for the next three years until 2013.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha considered human trafficking as one of the most shameful and criminal forms of slavery in the country and urged all Albanians to become aware and join the fight against trafficking.
Albania was considered as a transit country, but also an origin for human trafficking at the last report from the US Department of State.
Authorities are planning to increase their presence and talk with the communities trying to raise their awareness. Closer cooperation with outside partners is also of primary importance.
Prosecutor General Ina Rama also took part at an annual international conference of prosecutors in Seoul, South Korea to discuss the penal aspect of the fight against human trafficking.
