This year’s central topic is organized crime and aspects related to it such as corruption, terrorism, human trafficking, modern slavery etc.
TIRANA, Sept. 21 – Thirty-five feature films, documentaries and short films have been short-listed to participate in the sixth edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania scheduled for September 25 to 30. The Marubi Academy of Film and Multimedia, which is the festival’s organizer, says the movies were selected out of 300 worldwide submissions.
This year’s central topic is organized crime and aspects related to it such as corruption, terrorism, trafficking in human beings, modern slavery etc.
A special section has been dedicated to people with disabilities. High school students and experts will also engage in the afternoon debates during the six-day festival.
The International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania (IHRFFA) comes with a new way of educating people with the human rights concepts. Constituted as a cultural platform for the dissemination and awareness rising of the people on human rights issues, it operates through using image as its instrument.
IHRFFA includes in its program documentary and fiction movies dealing with human rights that are sensitive especially for the Albanian society. This event brings to the public’s attention similar experiences from all over the world and by using image as its tool, the impact is stronger and more straightforward.
The organization of the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania is becoming a tradition. As an initiative of the Marubi Academy of Film and Multimedia, since the 2006 other human rights organizations operating in Albania have joined the cause such as UNICEF, Albanian Helsinki Committee, Utica College, a number of Embassies in Tirana such as the French Embassy, German, Austrian, Swiss, U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albanian Institute of Media, etc.
Through the years, the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania has become the event which brings on all together human rights activists, selected movies and the best filmmakers.
