Better protections urged in children’s use of internet

TIRANA, Feb. 5 – The international community and government authorities on Tuesday called on Albanians to better protect children’s use of the internet.
A conference on children’s security in the internet was held Tuesday on Safe Internet Day.
All the speakers hailed the increase use of internet in the country which is a very positive sign and one that can really assists in the children’s education.
But they also warned that authorities and people themselves should keep a close eye on the use of internet by the children, who are threatened by pornography and other risks posed by the web.
They said that young persons should also either be restrained or kept under control when they use social networks.
Children as little as seven years old are reported to be using Facebook or other networking sites where many risks lurk of kids.
Authorities say they have held continuous public awareness activities on the issue in collaboration with the education ministry, Microsoft, television stations broadcasting videos calling on the parents to be careful when children use internet.
Mobile operators and internet providers will soon sign a Code of Conduct on using new practices and a better treatment of the clients using the internet.
