TIRANA, Oct. 31 – The Permanent Bern Convention Commission of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg has told Macedonia it should shelve its project to build the proposed Radika hydro power plant.
In late 2013, the Radika project sparked a diplomatic row between Macedonia and Albania, which said that would change and weaken the flow of the river that moves into Albania.
There were also complaints from environmental associations that it would cause serious environmental damage to the area.
The report is to be approved at the CoE meeting in early December, Top Channel television reported.
The Council of Europe also advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank to be careful with such projects, after the development banks had been asked to support the politically controversial project.
