In the Netflix dark comedy film, “The War Machine,” when a U.S. general (Brad Pitt) explains to the Afghan president (Ben Kingsley) how he was going to win the war, in military jargon and enthusiasm, saying: “This is my new strategy,” the president smiles and says: “It sounds a lot like the old strategy.” The general was replaced a few months later and the war goes on to this day.
