TIRANA, Feb. 17 – In celebration of the Black History Month, more than fifty Albanian high school students from Tirana showcased a production centered on African-American History this week. In an “Evening of African-American Music and Poetry” organized by the U.S Embassy in Tirana students from the “Jordan Misja” Music School showcased a storyline of the struggles of this community—from Rosa Parks to the March on Washington—through poems by Maya Angelou, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and Langston Hughes, as well as jazz and blues pieces, to cherish and celebrate African American culture, the embassy said.
The concert hall of the Orthodox Church Cathedral in Tirana was standing room only, as people from all walks of life, students, educators, professionals, and officials, joined in the commemoration of American history.
Tanking the children for their hard work, U.S. Ambassador Donald Lu emphasized the global importance and influence of African American contributions to the history of the United States.
