US Ambassador Yuri Kim presented on Monday her credentials to Albanian President Ilir Meta. A few hours later, she addressed Albanians with a message emphasizing the special relationship between the United States and Albania.

"Few friends have embraced America more warmly, few allies have been more loyal and few partners have the readiness and willingness to do more with the US than Albania," she said.

The US ambassador praised the United States' commitment to helping Albania.

“Today we stand with you not only in support of freedom and sovereignty but also in support of Albania's future. We know there is a lot to be done ahead, but we know that the hardest job gets easier when you have friends and allies behind you The US is committed to helping Albania become a stronger and more capable ally. The US is committed to helping Albania strengthen its EU bid. We will continue to uphold the steadfast aspiration of the Albanian people for freedom, justice and a system where everyone must respect the same rules. "

The US ambassador also emphasized the justice reform and the fight against organized crime and corruption.

“I look forward to working with Albanian leaders as they take on the difficult but absolutely necessary steps to implement the justice reform in order to prosecute crime and to remove corruption from the Albanian system. I am confident that as justice and integrity take root in Albania, more investors will be attracted to Albania so they can create more jobs and opportunities for both Americans and Albanians,” she said.

Ambassador Kim recalled the support the United States provided for Albania since the beginning of the last century when “President Wilson raised his voice for Albania when no one did. When he did not allow the great powers to divide Albania at the Paris Peace Conference.”

Kim underlined that not even communism could separate the two peoples.

“We stayed connected and talked to each other through VOA, which not only broadcasted news but also sparks of hope. These sparks of hope quickly engulfed all of Albania, and we stayed with you in 1991 as you were freed from the chains of dictatorship and communism.”

To further strengthen the message of support for Albania, the ambassador chose to end her speech by speaking in Albanian when she said, "we are still with you side by side."
