TIRANA, Dec. 11 – A group of actors from the National Theatre sent a letter of protest to Culture Minister Ylli Pango. The National Theatre has been accused of financial abuse and corruption, an accusation the actors rejected.
The theatre actors considered such claims by the government as part of a baseless campaign against corruption and requested that their institution and its image should not be tarnished.
They have also asked for a meeting with the minister.
At the same time, top theatre manager, Kristaq Skrami, has said he has filed a case at the Tirana court against one of its actors who had made an accusation of corruption.
The ministry had made five special audits of the theater, not finding any abuse.
But they have had no reaction from the ministry or the minister yet. They said that this season has been its most successful, though the funding from the state budget has been 35 percent less than a year ago.
They also complained that the ministry had offered no support at all, remaining ‘indifferent’ in the best case, they said.
