Albania is one of the countries with best credit record in the region. According to a recent comparative study by BoA, Bank of Albania, only Romania and Turkey have a better score than Albania, while there is a huge difference with the remaining countries. The introduction of the credit registry will decrease the bad credit phenomena further for banks. According to the study, Serbia scores the worst in the region with bad credit counting for 21.4% of the banks credit. BoA has increased its monitoring of bank credit to prevent the financial system crisis all around the world that was mainly caused from the credit mismanagement by US banks.
Individual and business loans have always been considered the most problematic in the Albanian banks credit portfolio. Bad credit scores for the respective categories were 3% and 3.6% in 2007, a slight increase from 2006 with the respective scores of 2.2% and 3.5%. Such a trend has continued into 2008, with the individual credit being the most problematic even though its score remains lower than business credit, with the latest slightly improving.
Albania better than the region in bad credit scores.
